Job Title: Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist                                                  Wage/Hour Status: Exempt  
Reports to: Campus Administrator/SPED Director or Designee                 Pay Grade: TC01/187 days

Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Literacy/Dyslexia Interventionist is to provide instructional strategies and assessments as appropriate to students identified as dyslexic in a special program to remediate their learning differences and provide them with opportunities to develop skills necessary to read and spell on grade level.  The interventionist will also provide instructional and compliance support for campus personnel working with students with dyslexia. He/she will administer assessments to track student progress and review their student assessment data with stakeholders. In addition, this position will support campus staff in understanding and implementing district initiatives and transforming Lewisville ISD into a Global Learning Organization.
Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas certification for assigned grade levels served
  • Minimum three years successful K-5 regular education, special education, or bilingual classroom experience preferred
  • CALT certification preferred
  • Reading Specialist or Special Education certification preferred
  • Training in teaching students with dyslexia preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Deep understanding of reading pedagogy, especially reading interventions
  • Communication skills necessary to work with parents and other school staff in coordinating the dyslexia program and accommodations for students
  • Demonstrates innovative and engaging instruction that leads students with dyslexia to profound learning and academic linguistic proficiency
  • Knowledge of the RTI, 504, and IDEA processes
  • Proficiency in the use of instructional technology to engage students in their learning
  • Able to utilize technology to disaggregate and analyze student data in order to determine appropriate interventions based on specific objectives.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of formative assessment practices and implementation
  • Effective coaching, problem solving, and conferencing skills
  • Commitment to continual learning personally and collectively.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Acquire the skills necessary to implement research-based dyslexia intervention program
  • Instruct students in the LISD dyslexia curriculum and monitor student progress
  • Prepare, maintain, and present all information, reports, and records as required.
  • Open lines of communication and cultivate an atmosphere of collegial collaboration and problem solving with teachers and parents.
  • Serve on 504/ARD committees to follow student progress and make data-based recommendations for student interventions including but not limited to dyslexia interventions.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process

Professional Growth and Development:
  • Participate in professional learning activities for professional growth in job-related skills specific in the areas of reading interventions including students with dyslexia and research-based best practices.
Other Professional Obligations:
  • Maintain knowledge of, and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Assist campuses in state and federal compliance questions
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required by the position
  • Work synergistically with other team members and campus-based staff
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  • Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  • Meet task completion deadlines, established by supervisors.
  • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e. e-mail, written, and verbal).
  • Present a professional image in grooming and attire, and serve as a role model for all campus personnel.

  • Assist district and campus administrators in developing a comprehensive program for dyslexia remediation to improve student learning and achievement aligned with district and state measurements.
