Summer Maintenance Worker
TITLE: Summer Maintenance Worker
1. Knowledge of:
a.Basic methods, material, tools, and terminology used in grounds maintenance work and general labor.
b.Safe working methods and procedures.
2. Ability to:
a.Perform heavy manual activities.
b.Effectively use hand and power tools common to grounds maintenance work.
c.Operate ground maintenance equipment.
d.Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
e.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
3. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:
a.Experience: Prior work or home experience with ground maintenance procedures and equipment.
b.Education: High School graduate and enrollment in a post-secondary program.
4.Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
5. Must hold a valid Indiana Drivers License.
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified a part time seasonal and is subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Board of School Trustees. Pay is hourly based on the Summer Maintenance Worker schedule.
REPORTS TO: Designated Full Time Maintenance Worker
JOB GOAL: Performs assigned duties relating to grounds maintenance and general labor.
1.Mows, edges, trims, and prunes landscaped area.
2.Sweeps and picks up paper and other debris from grounds, walks, and driveways
3.Sprays ground areas with insecticides and herbicides
4.Assists in the moving and arranging of building furniture and equipment
5.Assists custodial personnel with painting and special summer cleaning.
6.Loads trucks with materials and assist in the delivery of same
7.Drives a truck with a trailer attachment in transporting equipment form work site to work site
8.Hauls dirt, sand, mulch, and debris associated with landscaping activities
9.Operates a variety of ground maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, garden tractors, and full size tractors.
10.Paints, moves furniture, does light-duty demolition
11.Performs routine service and assists in routine maintenance of equipment.
12.Performs other similar duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
1.Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
2.This type of work involves ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps to a height of 20 feet, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods.
3.Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, eye/hand coordination, the manual dexterity to operate grounds maintenance equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
4.Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
