SEL & Family Engagement Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Professional Educator License and Administrative Endorsement preferred.
A minimum of five years of experience in the field of public education, including
experience as a classroom teacher strongly desired.
Master’s degree in education, administration or related field
Demonstrated ability to coach or mentor other teachers and provide professional
Knowledge of MTSS, Trauma Informed Care, SEL standards, SEL research, theories and
methods of instruction.
Knowledge of Family Engagement Framework

REPORTS TO: Director of Equity & Curriculum
? Provides coordination for the effective implementation of the district’s social emotional learning initiatives
by which students and adults develop fundamental emotional and social competencies and experiences.
? Develops and coordinates the equitable engagement of the families of Freeport School District by assessing
family and community needs and developing plans and initiatives with stakeholders who support teaching,
learning and social emotional wellness.
? Ensures that schools and staff can integrate the social, emotional, and academic needs of their students into
instructional design, school management and MTSS processes.
? Provides direct support to school teams to help lead the development of a supportive school climate and
culture and build the capacity of schools and families to engage one another to improve student
achievement and social emotional wellness.
? Support schools in developing MTSS and SEL systems and teams around school climate, teaching all
students SEL competencies and connecting students to appropriate interventions
? Lead professional development to support the social emotional learning curriculum and instruction by using
best practices to improve classroom management, including research on learning theory and content
? Support Administrators, Deans, Behavior Specialists through coaching or training of evidence based SEL
and behavior supports
? Assist in providing PBIS trainings to administration, staff and school based teams and PBIS coaches
? Assist in the evaluation and improvement of district behavior health, PBIS structure and implementation
? Meet with MTSS teams and coaches on a regular basis to identify and progress monitor curricular,
managerial, or instructional needs for continuous improvement of academic and/or behavior goals
? Use data tools to assess student emotional development or academic progress to improve programming and
approaches within the MTSS framework
? Monitor schools’ attendance and discipline data in order to support truancy interventions, suspension
reduction efforts, and expulsion alternatives
? Consult with administrators on matters relating to attendance, misconduct and incidents and look for trends
in order to assist schools in managing these issues in a proactive manner
? Review, analyze and create action plans around district/school disaggregated discipline data and
? Review and consult with schools making expulsion hearing requests and coach schools in linking students
to intensive interventions
? Assist in the reviewing of referrals for expulsion and or suspension appeals
? Plan, coordinate and develop programs and practices that facilitate school-based family and community
engagement services to increase academic achievement
? Recommend new approaches, programs and techniques that facilitate family and community engagement
? Conduct training for parents on a variety of topics, including social emotional wellness
? Plan and coordinate district parent groups i.e. Parent Universities
? Support Family Resource Coordinators and assists with setting metrics of accountability within schools
? Collaborate with community and government agencies relating to wrap around services, mental health,
truancy, juvenile justice and other related services
? All other duties as assigned by Central Office Administration
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with
provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
