Position Description

JOB TITLE:      Teacher - Elementary School
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The primary duty of the teacher shall be to stimulate and guide the learning of pupils, including attention to their instruction, discipline, safety, health, and care while under the supervision of the school.
SUPERVISED BY: Building Principal
1. Appropriate Washington State teaching certificate for Elementary level. 
2. Clearance for state and national background checks as a result of fingerprinting; successfully pass criminal records check
1. Early Childhood endorsement.
2. Current knowledge and/or training in:
a.         immergent reading methodologies and strategies;
b.         intervention designs including the K-12 Reading Model and Response to Intervention
1. Develop and maintain a stimulating classroom environment conducive to learning.          
2. Plan activities and instructional programs that meet the individual needs of students, considering each one’s cultural, behavior, motivational and ability differences and requiring the highest level of achievement possible for each student.
3. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media recognizing that the following attributes are required:  enthusiasm for teaching, commitment of time and effort, appropriate and correct usage of language and interest in the subject and the student.
4. Set high instructional goals and be responsible for student evaluations.  Use care in maintenance of student records including assessments, attendance, progress reports, competencies, and other reports.
5. Be alert and respond to opportunities for the guidance needs of the individual student through open communication, as an advisor, and by being available to students before and after school.
6. Thoroughly prepare, through systematic use of lesson plans for the time management of the classroom and the needs of substitutes, volunteer assistants, consultants, para educators and related service providers.
7. Assist the administration in creating a positive, safe and stimulating environment and maintain control of the classroom, supervisory areas, and the assemblages of students.
8. Protect the students from commercial exploitation by refusing to provide lists of names to other than school officials; to allow advertisement, solicitation or selling of tickets; or to ask or require purchase of materials or donations of money, other than those approved by the administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time teaching position with salary and benefits determined by the Board as per the negotiated contract.
