Certified School Nurse - 160 days

LASEC is looking for a Certified School Nurse.  The LASEC Certified School Nurse (CSN) supports student outcomes to help students become successful at home, school, work and community endeavors. The CSN will apply their skills to ensure students attain:

  • High academic, behavioral and social emotional development
  • The development and independent use of self-advocacy skills
  • Care for their personal health and wellness
  • Caring for their communities
Reports To:
LASEC Program Coordinator
Essential Job Functions:
Multi-Disciplinary Team Member as a Certified School Nurse
  • Actively contributes to student eligibility evaluations, educational goal-setting, and school-based health plans, as needed
    • Assists the educational team in identifying and interpreting health issues and their potential impact on student learning and safety
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain professional confidentiality (both in meeting HIPPA requirements and Professional Standards) while communicating essential information, as needed
  • Continue professional growth by participating in organizational, local, state, and national events, trainings, and programs related to school health and the profession of school nursing
  • Maintain ISBE/Illinois Department of Professional Regulation database, as required
  • Facilitates hearing and vision assessments for students within LASEC
  • Submit forms, paperwork and follow procedures by the established timelines
Dial Screening Support
  • Provides direction, training, scheduling, and training for the Dial team members. 
Support for School System
  • Demonstrates knowledge of nursing process and health for students and staff
  • Assist in implementing and communication with directives provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health and Will County Public Health Department
  • Actively promotes health and wellness practices for individuals within the school setting
  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable laws, district policies/procedures, and current best practices related to special education and student health services in the school setting
  • Demonstrates knowledge of school and community resources useful in assisting students and families in maintaining effective health and wellness
  • Actively participates in review of district health services policies, procedures and protocol, as requested
  • Provide direct consultation for districts who do not have a certified school nurse
Support LASEC Programming
  • Engages in health/wellness education activities for both student and staff within the school setting
  • Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness to emerging needs, as needed
  • Organize and maintains necessary medical documentation and data for students in LASEC Programming
*Other duties as assigned by Program Administrator/Executive Director
Job Requirements
Appropriate licensure and endorsement issued and required by the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Professional Regulations. 
Work Environment
Position involves working with low incidence special education students in cooperative program classrooms located in general education buildings.
