The middle school principal is responsible for leading the successful middle school educational program. The person holding this position is also responsible for ensuring a trusting and openly communicative environment among all the stakeholders. The middle school principal reports to the Executive Director of Education and serves as a non-voting member of the board of directors.


Serves as the academic leader of the middle school. Implements the middle school curriculum, instruction, and assessments in a manner consistent with Peak to Peak’s mission statement Oversees the effective use of data to monitor and evaluate student progress and lead instructional/curricular improvement at the middle school level Stays current in and demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of effective, research-based practices to improve student achievement Coordinates the middle school grade level leader program and participates in vertical teaming throughout the 6-8 program; supports vertical teaming throughout the K-12 program Represents Peak to Peak and communicates its mission and programs to the school community and to the community at large as well as to the District Leadership Team and to the BVSD middle school principals; attends district meetings on a regular basis Interacts with Peak to Peak’s other principals and the full Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to ensure consistency and harmony between the school levels Assists with the design of the K-12 master schedule Presents key performance indicators on the strategic plan to the board of directors and community Completes the K-12 Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) Develops meaningful alignment between the goals included in the strategic plan/UIP and middle school objectives Serves as building administrator for after school events

Provides curricular and instructional leadership to the middle school that maximizes student achievement. Leads curriculum evaluation, mapping, and development at the middle school level in conjunction with other level principals Implements the board approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment in a manner consistent with Peak to Peak’s mission and vision Collaborates with other principals and the Director of Professional Development to develop, implement and facilitate professional development and workshops Leads the middle level faculty to ensure the delivery of curriculum through appropriate instructional approaches, serving the various learning styles and needs of Peak to Peak students In conjunction with the high school principal, oversees and facilitates the 6-12 Curriculum Committee and curriculum leader meetings, ensuring appropriate alignment and articulation between middle school and high school courses and instructional practices

Fosters a positive and cooperative team atmosphere and sets clear, high expectations for all staff while leading and supervising direct reports Participates in hiring for all direct reports Facilitates collaboration and strong teamwork within the middle school staff In conjunction with other principals, participates on the Service Council to guide K-12 program development and maintenance Ensures that the staff follows all the policies established by the board of directors and complies with relevant BVSD and state requirements Leads formal and informal teacher observations and professional goal plans; completes formal evaluations for direct reports; in the case of teachers new to Peak to Peak, evaluations will be conducted in collaboration with the Director of Professional Development Mentors teachers directly or provides for mentoring in instructional approaches, classroom management and character role modeling; works in collaboration with the Director of Professional Development on this task for teachers who are new to Peak to Peak Works in conjunction with the principals and Director of Professional Development to provide or arrange for professional development and leadership opportunities that support specific teacher needs and professional goals Determines middle school teacher class assignments Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team and Crisis Response Team; fulfills duties prescribed by the assigned role(s) within those teams. Implements positive school culture at the middle school level. Leads initiatives to support middle school students’ social-emotional education and well-being; collaborates with other level principals to align social-emotional learning targets across the K-12 school Interacts with school community members to build supportive relationships Facilitates ongoing communication and collaboration between K-12 staff, administration, and the board of directors Fosters communication and collaboration among staff, families, and students to support school goals; encourages participation from all stakeholders in school programs and activities Participates in open enrollment and attends school events as necessary Manages assigned budgets within parameters established by the Executive Director of Education and the Executive Director of Operations

Assists the Assistant Principal with disciplinary cases at the middle school level

Ensures effective supervision of the middle school student body at all times

Assists the middle school leadership team with planning the middle school special events schedule.

In conjunction with the high school principal, oversees secondary parent/teacher conferences

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Education or the board of directors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Middle School Principal has supervisory responsibility for middle school teachers, assigned crossover teachers and counselors.

REPORTING STRUCTURE The Middle School Principal reports directly to the Executive Director of Education and ultimately to the Peak to Peak Board of Directors.
