Must hold a certificate issued by Florida Department of Education.
The certificate must be in one of the following types: Professional Certificate, Temporary Certificate, Statement of Status of Eligibility.
The certificate position area must be in Counselor/Guidance.
The certificate must be in one of the following grades: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th.
The certificate status must be active or about to graduate from a state-approved teacher preparation program.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT a.Planning and developing a school-based guidance program which provides direct services to students, staff, parents, and the community. b.Coordinating and supervising guidance activities/programs as well as guidance personnel working under the direction of the counselor.
SERVICE TO STUDENTS a.Developing and providing services to students to assist them in meeting/achieving their educational, vocational, and personal-social needs and goals. b.Direct services to students include student registration/orientation, academic and vocational advising, test administration and interpretation, special and exceptional student placement, motivational activities, study skills development, individual and group personal-social counseling, health related counseling, educational and career advising and placement, academic incentive programs, and follow-up services. c.Developing and providing developmental guidance programs for all students in the areas of self-awareness, interpersonal skills, education awareness, and career awareness.
SERVICE TO PARENTS a.Acting as a facilitator of the parent-child relationship by providing short-term advising/counseling services and by conducting conferences for the purpose of interpreting tests and academic data. b.Serving a liaison function between parent and the community by facilitating appropriate agency referrals. c.Conducting informational programs/workshops for parents based on their needs (e.g., parenting skills, college financial aid).
SERVICE TO TEACHERS a.Facilitating and/or conducting faculty in-service training programs. b.Consulting with faculty in order to assist them in developing effective classroom management techniques, providing relevant background information on students, interpreting academic test data, facilitating the appropriate educational placement of students, and recommending appropriate educational strategies for dealing with students with special needs. c.Participating in in-school, ESE, and PREP staffing committees; assisting in the referral and placement process for special and exceptional student programs. d.Establishing school-based procedures for and assisting in the proper maintenance of student records.
SERVICE TO COMMUNITY a.Assisting in the transference of relevant student information to appropriate community agencies. b.Facilitating student referrals to appropriate community agencies. c.Providing public service programs and coordinating public relations efforts related to guidance services.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT a.Attending school and district meetings and in-service programs. b.Participating in local, state, and national professional associations.
PROGRAM EVALUATION a.Conducting student needs assessment. b.Participating in the evaluation process as it relates to guidance, related programs, SACS. MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS of SUPPORT (MTSS)/RtI * Communicating with parents and working on the Management Team, Data Teams, and Problem Solving Teams to implement the MTSS model which includes RtI * Coaching and training colleagues on MTSS implementation * Managing, analyzing, and utilizing student data (i.e., scoring probes, scheduling data collection, using collected data to drive student support)
TESTING COORDINATOR * Serve as the lead liaison with DOE assessment and accountability staff. * Issue memorandums and other correspondence related to assigned duties. * Disseminate annual assessment schedules for K-7 * Supervise the ordering, receiving, inventory and dissemination of materials related to federal, state and district assessment programs.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES a.Providing additional services as required by the principal. b.Organizing and coordinating all activities/services included in the guidance program and providing supervision of guidance personnel working under the counselor (i.e., occupational specialist, clerical staff, when required.
