English Language Paraprofessional (EL Aide)

Description: Assist teachers with instruction of English language learners or English as a second language.
Job Summary: 7 hours/day (8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.), 5 days/week, 195 days/year
Provide EL push in and/or pull out instruction to students in grades Kindergarten-12th
Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students in grades K through 12th, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
Maintain a database of EL and EL-eligible students.
Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (EL plans) for all EL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.
Assist in completing EL Accommodations Forms and EL Progress Reports for school students.
Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction.
Assist in developing an appropriate curriculum to help EL students acquire the English language.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning.
Assist in compiling and maintaining a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each student.
Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (Ohio Dept. of Education, grant applications, annual report, etc.).
Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.
Engage parents and families in their student’s learning and act as an ambassador for the school in the community.
Participate in EL Team monthly meetings
Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.
Other duties as assigned.
2 years of college coursework
OR an Associate's Degree or higher
OR a high school diploma with the passage of the ParaPro Assessment prior to employment
One year of related successful work experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience in operating basic office equipment, such as copiers, phones, scanners, etc.
Ability to lift equipment, supplies, and/or children weighing at least forty (40) pounds
Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualification: Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish. Fluently speaks and understands Spanish. Experience working with English language learners or English as a second language.
