Description:   Assist teachers with instruction of English language learners or English as a second language.  

Job Summary:   7 hours/day (8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.), 5 days/week, 195 days/year

Responsibilities:

  • Provide EL push in and/or pull out instruction to students in grades Kindergarten-12th

  • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students in grades K  through 12th, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.

  • Maintain a database of EL and EL-eligible students.

  • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (EL plans) for all EL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.

  • Assist in completing EL Accommodations Forms and EL Progress Reports for school students.

  • Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction.

  • Assist in developing an appropriate curriculum to help EL students acquire the English language.

  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning.

  • Assist in compiling and maintaining a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each student.

  • Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (Ohio Dept. of Education, grant applications, annual report, etc.).

  • Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.

  • Engage parents and families in their student’s learning and act as an ambassador for the school in the community.

  • Participate in EL Team monthly meetings

  • Participate in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.

  • Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of college coursework

  • OR an Associate's Degree or higher

  • OR a high school diploma with the passage of the ParaPro Assessment prior to employment

  • One year of related successful work experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience in operating basic office equipment, such as copiers, phones, scanners, etc.

  • Ability to lift equipment, supplies, and/or children weighing at least forty (40) pounds

  • Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the job.
     

Preferred Qualification: Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish. Fluently speaks and understands Spanish. Experience working with English language learners or English as a second language.
