The Lead Teacher Assistant assists the Teacher in ensuring all students are achieving at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally. The Lead Teacher Assistant must believe all children can learn. They must also have a strong understanding of evidence-based age-appropriate curriculum and instructional and classroom management strategies, enthusiasm for innovative practices, willingness to participate as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team, and possess the ability to adapt activities in order to incorporate the diverse strengths of students. They must also model lifelong learning by engaging in on-going individual professional development and should have a knowledge/passion for integrating arts and technology into instruction and using project based learning to engage all students.

Job Responsibilities: 1.Perform teacher duties in absence of the teacher, including, but not limited to following lesson plans, and leading other staff in the classroom. 2.Serve as lead for after-care, camp and/or summer classroom including developing weekly lesson plans utilizing developmentally appropriate practices and enriching activities for specific age levels, ensuring all documentation is complete (i.e. attendance sheets), and all safety procedures are followed. 3.Assist teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans. 4.Implement individual goals and objectives pursuant to Teacher directions. 5.Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques. 6.Assist in developing and implementing individual behavior plans as needed. 7.Assist in planning and developing instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources. 8.Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning children’s hands, faces, etc. 9.Ensure and carry out daily/weekly housekeeping chores for the classrooms, including, but not limited to sweeping floors after meals and activities, wiping tables and counters, cleaning changing tables, placing trash in appropriate containers, and washing, sterilizing and putting away equipment (toys, laundry and dishes). 10.Assist in the communication with therapists and other special service agencies, and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities. 11.Maintain positive staff and parent interactions. 12.Assist is developing a weekly progress note for each child. 13.Ensure parent sign in and out each day using appropriate/accurate forms. 14.Ensure Teacher and/or Extended Day Coordinator are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints. 15.Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher and/or Extended Day Coordinator. 16.Participate in required number of meetings with classroom team, including therapists, teacher assistants and teacher. 17.Supervise assigned teacher assistants during camp/extended day: 1.Ensuring awareness and compliance of policies and procedures; 2.Monitoring performance on an ongoing basis; 3.Assisting teacher with implementing progressive discipline when needed; 4.Training new employees on classroom procedures; and 5.Training employees on the individual needs of the students. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, selecting and prescreening of new employees as requested. 19.Assist with tracking student progress of individual goals. 20.Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPPA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies. 21.Perform other duties as assigned.
