Responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and oversight of the District’s irrigation systems.
Education and Certification Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurable with Judson ISD insurance carrier, and a good driving record
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
  • TCEQ Irrigation License in good standing

  • Considerable knowledge in the field of irrigation, installation, maintenance, and repairs
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of the proper use of safety practices
  • Ability to install irrigation system time clocks and ensure their operational effectiveness
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required
  • Ability to interpret irrigation plans
  • Proficient skills with the use of personal computer and software relevant to the job
  • Three (3) years  Irrigation Technician experience with one (1) of those years working as a licensed Irrigation Technician

  • Comply with District directives, policies, procedures, and safety standard operating procedures
  • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems
  • Install irrigation system time clocks and ensure their operational effectiveness
  • Make all necessary repairs and adjustments to ensure irrigation systems are properly maintained and operating in excellent working condition
  • Create and submit reports timely as requested relevant to areas of responsibility
  • Maintain accurate records of all system operating conditions
  • Conduct regular system inspection and perform trouble-shooting exercises as needed to ensure continued and sustained effective operation of all irrigation systems
  • Establish and program all watering cycles on district irrigation systems and ensure systems are operating in accordance to programming specifications
  • Keep current on all state and local irrigation laws
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities: 
Equipment Used: 
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Basic irrigation tools, back hoe and trenching machine
Mental Demands:
  • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute, Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
  • Occasional: Lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or more
  • Lifting frequently a moderate weight of 15-25 pound and often 15 – 44 pounds
Environmental Factors:
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration, fumes, and toxic chemicals. 
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work on ladders and scaffolding, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on slippery or uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
