PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The VoIP Telephone Systems Administrator will manage and support the JISD Cisco Unified Communications VoIP telephone system which includes Call Manager, Unity, Presence, MeetingPlace, Exchange, Unified Contact Center, CRS servers, gateways, SRSTs, ATAs, VistaPoint, PRIs and third party hardware and software integrations.  Specific support emphasis will be on configuration, management, system upgrades and day-to-day operational support and maintenance.  In addition, support and development of software programs required to monitor and maintain the VoIP server cluster is required.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certification Requirements
  • B.S. and/or Certifications may be substituted for three or more years of experience in working with Cisco VOIP systems
  • Must have valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
 
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Managing data communications networks, local (LAN) and wide (WAN) area networks
  • Supporting, maintaining, and configuring Cisco network equipment, operating systems and third party applications
  • Perform routine system administration tasks including OS and application patches, upgrades, backups, restores and migrations
  • Troubleshoot Cisco Call Manager, Unity Voice Mail, Cisco UCCE, Cisco phones, VistaPoint, PRIs, SRSTs, ATAs and other third party hardware, software and applications
  • Ability to coordinate and work with others to resolve technical issues and problems
  • Knowledge of Ethernet network topologies both LAN and WAN
  • Knowledge of querying and setting up a user access to a database
  • Knowledge of basic telephony principles, applications, installations
  • Knowledge of VoIP protocols and applications
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Ability to assess verbal phone concerns to provide technical support
  • Ability to use effective verbal and written communication skills to provide outstanding customer service
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment, supporting many people at once
  • Ability to solve problems and handle situations diplomatically
  • A high priority on providing outstanding customer service and turnaround time
 
Experience:
  • IT Experience in a large school District or organization (Preferred)
  • Experience with route lists, patterns, hunt groups and global directory administration experience
  • Experience with network security, QoS implementation and troubleshooting
  • Excellent telephone, communication, document creation skills
  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager administrative experience
  • Windows Server 2016 or higher, 2014 SQL or higher, Linux and Active Directory with ability to extend this knowledge into Cisco Call Manager Telephony, Unity Voice Mail, Cisco UCCE applications and third party applications
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Cisco network server equipment and operating systems
  • Perform equipment, software, and firmware updates as recommended by industry standards and directed by the Network Manager
  • Utilize third party tools and Cisco network management software and hardware to identify and correct problems with the communications equipment
  • Provide configuration and problem resolution support for the district's telephone system
  • Troubleshoot and maintain traditional phone lines
  • Lead efforts to diagnose and resolve complex system configuration, production and deployment problems
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies for data communications related to data, voice, and video
  • Develop and support user programming required to monitor and maintain telephone system
  • Attend instructor led and computer based technical training and then use this training to enhance ability to perform job and to obtain required certifications
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices
  • Use computer and software to develop spreadsheets, update databases, and do word processing
  • Maintain inventory records for all equipment purchased, installed or controlled under Network Services
  • Maintain inventory records for all phone lines and numbers controlled under Network Services
  • Inspect all contract work completed for Network Services
  • Research and investigate new and current VoIP tools
  • Research and price voice, video, and data items as requested by Network Manager
  • Program and inventory two-way radios
  • Troubleshoot, repair or facilitates repair of two-way radios
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics        
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Performs other duties as assigned
 
Equipment Used: 
  • Office equipment – personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
  • Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Installation/Repair Tools and Equipment – ladders, testers, drills, grinders, racks, saws, hammers, screw/nail drivers, labelers, and other equipment applicable to position
