JOB TITLE:                                        Structured Integrated Learning Classroom (SILC) Aide
                                                            Elementary School
                       
REPORTS TO:                                   Campus Principal
 
WAGE/HOUR STATUS:                    Nonexempt  
 
PAY GRADE:                                     Para 3


 
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
 
The SILC Aide will assist special education teacher to provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High school graduate or GED from an accredited institution
  • 48 hours of college coursework
  • Pass Spring Independent School District’s NCLB test in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics (Tests are administered after the recommendation for hire)
  • Educational Aide II Certificate (Or willing to obtain)

Preferred:

  • Have obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree from an accredited college or university
  • One+ years’ experience with children

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Assist teacher in preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist teacher in preparing/maintaining records/reports required by Federal, State or Local laws/regulations.
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist teacher in intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of behavior plans.
  • Assist teacher in data collection requirements, to document student progress.
  • Assist teacher in working with individual students or small groups.
  • Assist in supervision of students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, and including community trips.
  • Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding special education student information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in training sessions related to the education of students with disabilities.
  • Assist students/teacher in instructional activities that occur in the community.
 
 
WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
 
The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following:

Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, moderate standing, stooping, bending,  reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Ability to maintain emotional control under stress. May require some lifting no more than 10lbs. Overtime is required as necessary.
