JOB DESCRIPTION
 
JOB TITLE:  SUBSTITUTE COOK
REPORTS TO:  FOOD SERVICE MANAGER/BUSINESS MANAGER
                       
JOB PURPOSE: To efficiently operate the school kitchen to ensure that a quality lunch is served daily to students and staff.
 
Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  1. Assist Head Cook in preparing food items for all Satellite Facilities. 
  2. Fill lunch sacks and put in food cart for delivery to all Satellite Facilities.
  3. Assist where needed after sacks are complete.
  4. Assist in set up and serving lunches.
  5. Clean own area and assist with dish washing.
  6. Complete production records daily.
  7. Assist with daily/weekly/monthly cleaning chores.
  8. Ensure all meals are complete, in delivery carts, and ready for delivery.
  9. Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
 
Requirements:          
  1. Requires High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  2. One year school lunch program food service experience.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Language Skills:   Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
 
Mathematical Skill:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
 
Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. 
 
Problem Solving: Can identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.  Works well in group problem solving situations. Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
 
Student Service: Manages difficult or emotional situations in a positive manner. Responds promptly to student needs. Responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments.
 
Interpersonal Skills: Focuses on solving conflict and not blaming. Maintains confidentiality. Listens to others without interrupting. Keeps emotions under control and remains open to other ideas and tries new things.
 
Teamwork: Contributes to building a positive work environment.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.  The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
