Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to develop, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate district-wide programs to provide out of school time child care to students 4 years old through 8th grade in the Fun & Friends program.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or related field

  • At least 2 years prior experience with supervision of a child care program

  • At least 2 years prior experience successfully working directly with children

  • Experience in creating developmentally appropriate environments for children from multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and varied socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Knowledge of best practice and quality standards in child care programs

  • Ability to develop and manage a program budget

  • Possession of or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with people of all ages

  • Must possess strong technology skills 

  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle to travel between program sites


Duties & responsibilities:
  • Develop and coordinate the daily operations of the Fun & Friends program that offer students 4 years old through 8th grade activities to promote intellectual, physical, social and emotional development in a safe, positive, enriching educational setting for students outside of the school day. 

  • Oversee the services offered to children with disabilities and children experiencing family problems of a temporary nature to support their participation in child care programs.  

  • Coordinate the hiring, orientation, and ongoing training of program staff in accordance with department and district policies and procedures. 

  • Prepare and recommend annual budgets with the Director of Community Education. 

  • Attend and participate in professional conferences to stay current with best practice in the field.

  • Attend and participate in professional opportunities offered throughout the district for staff.

  • Hold membership in 1-2 relevant professional organizations. (i.e. MCEA, MNAFFEE).

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Education.


Work Conditions: This position will be located at the Washington Educational Services Building in the Youth Programs office and will regularly interact with the Child Care Coordinator, district and program staff, public, parents/guardians of participating children, and children participating in programs. It is a loud, active, busy environment and will have frequent job interruptions. Extensive public contact and questions are to be expected.
