COVID-19 Considerations:  
 
To keep our staff and students safe, the District will be following all guidelines as issued by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health, including the wearing of a face mask throughout the school day.  Must be willing to comply with daily self-assessment symptom tracking protocols required of all district staff
 
Essential Functions:
Deliver lesson plans as instructed by the regular classroom teacher and/or school administrators.
Ensure the safety and well being of all students within the assigned classroom and appropriately respond to all emergency situations.
Ensure the protection of equipment, materials and facilities as appropriate.
Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
Communicate in a positive way with all students, staff, and others.
Manage student behavior which supports a positive learning environment.
Understand the use of unscheduled class time as time for classroom planning, professional development and time given to assist in the overall needs of the School. 
May be required to participate in building events such as fire drills, evacuations, assemblies, etc.
May need to direct activities of a classroom assistant(s).

Qualifications and Experience:
Active state of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or substitute license.
Experience working in a classroom setting preferred
Must be able to demonstrate effective classroom and time management.
Must have an understanding of the elements of Middle School and elementary school education.
Must have a passion for teaching children and helping them to achieve their best.
Must be able to work with staff, students and parents from a wide range of backgrounds.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
 
This is an at-will position and an offer of employment is not a contract for continued employment from year to year.  The employment relationship can be discontinued at any time.   The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
Standing approximately 30-35% and for periods of up to 30 minutes required.  Walking approximately 30-35% for periods of up to 15 minutes.  Sitting 30-40%.  Teacher discretion is used to determine when to sit, stand, and walk as appropriate.
May need to sit on the floor for assignments in the Early Childhood and K-2 setting.
May need to navigate uneven surfaces for some assignments.
May need to be outside at times.
May need to work with materials such as paint, clay, glue, crayons, etc. for some assignments.

Salary is dependent on the regular substitute salary schedule:  Days 1-15, $100/day; days 16-35, $105/day; days 36+ $110/day
There are no benefits associated with the position.
Term: Mid September 2020 through June 2021. Maximum 120 work days.
Multiple positions are available.
