JOB DESCRIPTION
  
JOB TITLE:  Lunch Monitor
REPORTS TO:   Elementary Administrative Assistant & Elementary School Asst. Principal
 

  • This is a part time position at the hourly wage of: $13.00
  • This position will be during lunch hours.
    • We also have several Health Screening Monitor positions open and encourage applicants to apply for both positions (Heath Screening Monitors & Lunch Monitor).  The Heath Screening Monitor will be during the morning hours only.
 
Summary/Objective
This position provides assistance and supervision for children during lunch and/or assigned recesses to ensure a
positive and safe environment . Supervision will be provided in the classroom during Phase 1 of reopening guidelines.
Supervision will be provided in the cafeteria and on the playground as needed during Phase 2 of reopening guidelines.
 
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Knowledge and Abilities during Phase 1 Supervision
  • Monitor classrooms during mealtime periods.
  • Monitor restroom use.
  • Circulate throughout the classroom during mealtime. Help students by opening packages and milk cartons.
  • Assist in lunch clean-up.
  • Ensure students wash hands before eating lunch and when finished cleaning up lunch.
  • Sanitize the playground using a portable backpack fogger.
  • Report disciplinary concerns to the Classroom Teacher.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Attend work regularly and be punctual adhering to the attendance policy.
  • Dress appropriately for working with children.
 
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Knowledge and Abilities during Phase 2 Supervision
  • Monitor the cafeteria, playground and/or other common areas utilized over the morning play and mealtime periods (including classrooms and the gym when utilized for indoor recess).
  • Circulate throughout the cafeteria during mealtime. Help students by opening packages, milk cartons and heating upfood in the microwave. Clean up spills and provide additional assistance as needed.
  • Assist staff in lunchroom clean-up.
  • Assess playground environment for organization, cleanliness, security and equipment condition. Make improvements as needed and sweep sidewalk for gravel and other debris. Limited snow removal (broom, shovel)
  • Report disciplinary and other concerns to Administration and/or classroom Teacher.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Evaluate student injuries and determine course of action.
  • Attend work regularly and be punctual adhering to the Attendance Policy.
  • Dress appropriately for working with children and weather conditions.
 
Education and Related Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred
  • No experience required
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions
 
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
  • Criminal background check required for hire

Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically able to work outside throughout the school year
  • Regularly required to speak and hear
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Occasionally climb stairs and use a broom or shovel to remove snow
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision
Working Conditions
  • The Playground Monitors could be exposed to weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow and other outdoor weather conditions.
  • Will be required to us PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) i.e. Mask and/or gloves.
  • Appropriate shoes are needed for the playground environment and gravel in the play area examples:  closed toe, tennis shoes or boots.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
