  Position Summary

The Vanguard School has openings for the 2020-2021 School Year for One-To-One Aides to support individual students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs in our Elementary School.  
 
Under the direction of a certified special education teacher, the One-To-One Aide works directly with his/her assigned student providing specialized assistance to maintain progress toward IEP and/or FBA goals.  In addition to respecting the rights of our students, a primary focus for this position is positive behavior support and student safety.  Twelve (12) hours of training in crisis de-escalation techniques and behavioral interventions is provided.

COVID-19:  We are currently providing 100% remote instruction on M365.  Beginning October 26, we will go to a 2 days/week in the classroom and 3 days/week remote schedule.  Beginning November 16, we will increase to 4 days/week in the classroom and 1 day/week of remote instruction.  PPE will be provided to all staff.  For additional details, see our Health & Safety Plan on our website.

Starting Annual Pay Rates (10 month positions):
Without a Bachelor's degree      $20,500 plus $2,400 for working Summer ESY
 With a Bachelor's degree          $21,500 plus $2,500 for working Summer ESY
 With a Special Ed Cert.             $25,000 plus $2,950 for working Summer ESY
Additional compensation is paid for years of directly related work experience. 

Benefits include:  paid health and dental insurance, paid personal and sick days, a 9% employer contribution to our Retirement Plan, and opportunities for professional development.  Tuition reimbursement of up to $2000 in the first year is available for college courses in special education. Safety care training is provided.    
  Position Requirements
  1. Two years of college; or high school graduate with two years experience working with children with special needs in an organized setting.
  2. Two years experience working in behavioral health field providing direct services to students with autism and/or emotional disturbance.
  3. Familiarity with behavior modification, positive behavior support systems, and/or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is required; formal training in crisis de-escalation techniques and behavioral interventions is preferred.
  4. Ability to engage intellectually and physically with students in need of crisis intervention.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
  6. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  7. Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.
  Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Actively assist in implementing lesson plans, reinforcing instruction/tutoring, and documenting student progress of assigned student throughout the school day.
  2. Observe, monitor, and redirect behavior of assigned student during regular classroom time, special class times, transition periods, and on field trips according to school and program procedures. Maintain accurate records on student progress and behavior for school programs and outside agencies as required.
  3. Accompany assigned student to art, music, physical education, computer classes, and special events and provide assistance to the specialty teacher during class as needed.
  4. Accompany assigned student to individual and group therapy sessions as needed.
  5. Assist the teacher with testing, recordkeeping, and progress monitoring for assigned student.
  6. Under the teacher’s direction, communicate with parents and staff regarding student progress. Participate in meetings as required.
  7. Provide a nurturing environment for all students. Enforce school policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner to ensure the health and safety of all students. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
  8. Maintains a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with colleagues, students and parents at all times.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
