JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Network Engineer contributes to the overall mission of Zion Elementary Dist. 6 and the Technology Department to provide, maintain, and enhance technology supporting systems, applications as well as tools for staff, teachers and students. The primary focus of these efforts are to provide enhanced student accessibility to educational programs and learning opportunities.
 
APPLICABLE CERTIFICATIONS: 
CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+), VCP, Microsoft Specialist (Windows 10, Exchange, Server, Virtualization), MTA (IT Infrastructure, Windows 10, Database), MCSA (Windows Server 2012 and or 2016, Cloud, SQL Server, Office 365), MCSE (Server infrastructure, Enterprise Devices and Apps, Messaging, Private Cloud), WCNA, SCP
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related bachelor’s degree and applicable certifications preferred or equivalent skills and experience required
  • Superior troubleshooting and task analysis skills
  • Significant experience in software configuration, diagnosis and setup of Windows, Apple, Chrome and Linux computers, tablets and other wired or wireless devices
  • Have substantial working knowledge of support, management and maintenance of datacenters and servers (Primarily Windows, with some Apple and Linux) including server virtualization, VMware and Hyper-V,  routers, firewalls,  web filters, switches, SAN devices, UPS equipment, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, network topology and design, and other related network skills
  • Expert knowledge of PC desktop and laptop support, management and deployment
  • Substantial experience with Chrome and mobile device management
  • Have a vast knowledge of VOIP, enterprise data cabling and wireless systems
  • Ability to expertly communicate with other technical staff, management and
    end users
  • Proven experience providing exceptional customer service
 
EXPERIENCE:
  • Ten years of Information Technology experience
  • Five years of experience in top level IT technical support
  • Four years of experience with network systems, server administration and support
  • Two years of public sector experience is preferred
 
LOCATION:  District Office, travel to other buildings limited
 
NETWORK ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide top tier technical support of District technology equipment and systems
  • Support and maintains computer platforms including managing the backups of network servers, systems and or related service(s)
  • Configure, install, maintain and decommission network equipment
  • Manage, perform and direct upgrades and/or repairs of existing network hardware and software
  • Develop and edit technical specifications for District technical purchases
  • High level hardware/software diagnostics and support
  • Provide backup to the Coordinator of Network Operations
  • Provide assistance to the Technology Support Specialist
 
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with oversight of Technology Department Network Operations
  • May function as key liaison to coordinate activities between external technology consultants, engineers and District needs
  • Keep all constituents informed of operational aspects of all network systems
  • Maintain expertise in computer technology and provide recommendations and suggestions for improvements and advancements to School's and District systems
  • Assist the Coordinator of Network Operations to generate the Technology Department Budget
  • Work with the Coordinator of Network Operations to advance the District Technology Plan
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Network Operations
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Access to vehicle for travel to school buildings as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
 
EXPECTATIONS:
  • Work after hours, as needed, to provide support or assist in the maintenance of Network systems (Start times may be adjusted to allow for an 8-hour day)
  • Assist in the rotation of office staffing to insure coverage between 07:30 AM and 6:30 PM (on rotation)
  • Wear a two-way phone during work hours and respond immediately
  • Be reachable during non-work hours in case of emergency (on rotation)
  • Check and respond to communications (e-mail/voicemails) in a timely fashion
  • Meet regularly with Technology Team
  • Communicate effectively with school staff upon entering and exiting buildings
  • Communicate with all staff, students and public in a professional, courteous manner
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Salary and fringe benefits will be reviewed annually by the School Board.
