Elementary Director of Teaching and Learning
Sylvania Schools has an opening for an Elementary Director of Teaching and Learning.
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs, this person is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and implementing the entire district-wide curriculum for grades K-5.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: May include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills, and other characteristics.
Demonstrates collaboration in the decisions affecting academic programs
Promotes the effective integration use of technology
Adheres to all Board of Education policy and guidelines
General Curriculum (K-5 Programs):
Direct development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development programs related to elementary teaching and learning. Work with the Director of Student Data and Assessment, Director of Instructional Technology, and building administrators in planning professional development for professional teaching staff.
Direct district-wide continuous curriculum development and improvement for all areas of instruction in grades K-5 through a correlated and integrated program of instruction.
Provide analysis of the elementary academic measures in the annual Ohio State Report Card for all stakeholders.
Promote and model collaboration for building principals, department chairs, committees, teachers, administrators, and community when making decisions.
Produce curriculum materials, bulletins, brochures, guides, directories and etc., related to newly approved or mandated instructional programs, and distribute those materials to building principals, teachers, and administrators as needed.
Develop curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature, Board of Education, or by state mandate.
Collaborate with the cabinet in the yearly staffing and scheduling process to provide for the responsible allocation of district resources to ensure the continuation of existing programs and the growth of new ones.
Participate in Collaborative Teams
Serve on district collaborative committees requiring administration representation as needed.
Participate in collaborative teams outside of the district.
Direct Special Programs
Responsible for the overall operation of the following district-wide special programs:
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Responsible for all budget expenditures related to elementary teaching and learning and career technical education, including, but not limited to purchase orders, supply inventory, equipment inventory, textbook inventory, utilization of grant money. Promote grant writing to supplement the district budget.
