Job Title:  Online Learning Teacher - Business

Reports to:  Director of Innovative Learning

Dept/School:  Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) / District-Wide

Work Year:  184 Days

Base Salary:  Teacher Pay Scale
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Coordinate the development and implementation of online and blended courses and programs via technology-based distance learning delivery systems.  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.  

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Frisco R.A.I.L. – Reaching All Innovative Learners
The Frisco R.A.I.L. will provide online courses for credit recovery and advancement to FISD students facilitated by FISD faculty.  This program will expand learning opportunities to increase flexibility and choice in academic planning.   This online program will allow FISD students to actively direct their own learning in a positive, supportive and engaging environment.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Master’s degree or enrolled in a master’s degree program preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate in secondary content area - Business
Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of  Learning Management Systems (LMS) including Canvas
Serve as a student advocate to provide direction and support by creating and monitoring processes that will ensure student success in the online environment
Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Frisco R.A.I.L. in written and oral form, including electronic media
Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains
Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
Ability to use effective strategies in differentiating instruction
Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning
Demonstrate operational knowledge of a variety of technology equipment, including Internet and web-related technologies
Ability to listen and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and administrators
Demonstrate effective data-based problem solving skills
 
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years secondary teaching experience in a classroom setting
Experience teaching online preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  
Instructional Strategies:
Design and implement instruction that aligns with the mission and vision of the Frisco R.A.I.L.
Implement instructional activities that contribute to a positive environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Collaborate with the instructional team concerning student educational needs as requested.
Use a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks.
Assist students on multiple campuses who take instruction in a lab setting at the school.
Use formative and summative assessments in order to differentiate and improve instructional practices and strategies and provide feedback to students and parents.
Participate in teacher induction training as scheduled by the Coordinator of Innovative Learning.
Exhibit a willingness to work a flexible online schedule including evening and weekend hours.
 
Program Management:
Coordinate registrations of students enrolled in the Frisco R.A.I.L. courses.
Provide an orientation for all first-time Frisco R.A.I.L. students so that they understand the expectations of the program.
Participate and lead virtual open houses.
Assist with student placement.
Assist students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systems.

Communication:
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals.
Clearly articulate deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely manner.
Provide direct consultation and guidance to students and parents on matters relating to courses, attendance, participation, and other processes such as re-test requirements.
Assist in providing information to community groups, schools, and parents about the Frisco R.A.I.L.
Participate in community-based extracurricular activities as requested.

Monitoring and Reporting:
Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures including records of parent and student contact.
Complete appropriate reports for local, state, federal and educational agencies.
Assist with district and school-wide data analysis.
Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
Ensure that each student enrolled in the Frisco R.A.I.L. has accurate, up-to-date records.
Coordinate with the school’s Registrar to ensure that all courses and grades are placed on the student’s report card and transcript.
Stay current on all Frisco R.A.I.L. communications and attend online or face to face training and coaching sessions.
 
Professional Growth and Development:
Continue professional growth through self-directed, as well as defined professional development opportunities, which may include additional training, professional learning communities, outside research, and reading professional literature.
Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Frequent and prolonged and irregular hours.
