Job Title:  Virtual Learning Instructor – Middle School Math

Reports to:  Director of Innovative Learning

Dept/School:  Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) / District Wide

Work Year:  Teacher Calendar

Base Salary:  Teacher Pay Scale
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide synchronous and asynchronous online instruction from a central location for Pre-AP Geometry and Pre-AP Algebra II middle school students across Frisco ISD. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Master’s degree or enrolled in a master’s degree program preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate in high school math

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of academic subject assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains
Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
Demonstrate operational knowledge of a variety of technology equipment, including Internet and web-related technologies
Demonstrate effective data-based problem solving skills
 
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years secondary teaching experience in a classroom setting, middle school preferred
Experience teaching online, preferred
GT experience, preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  
Instructional Strategies:
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
 
Student Growth and Development:
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Be a positive role model for students.
Support the mission of the school district.
 
Classroom Management and Organization:
Create an online classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Embed ISTE standards to ensure that virtual classroom arrangement fully supports student-centered instructional strategies 
 
Program Management:
Coordinate registrations of students enrolled in the Frisco R.A.I.L. courses.
Provide an orientation for all first-time Frisco R.A.I.L. students so that they understand the expectations of the program.
Participate and lead virtual open houses.
Assist with student placement.
Assist students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systems.

Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Clearly articulate deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely manner.

Professional Growth and Development:
Participation in the RAIL Culture and Collaborative Planning Teams
Utilizes asynchronous and synchronous tools to augment course content according to
prescribed policies and procedures set by the district.
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Adhere to all TTESS expectations in the virtual environment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Frequent and prolonged and irregular hours.
