Job Title:  Custodial Mechanic

Reports to:  Director of Custodial Services

Dept/School:  Custodial Department / Sam Carter Service Center

Work Year:  250 days

Base Salary: $37,500  Actual salary will be calculated based on experience.
To perform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district custodial equipment and machines.  Work on projects as assigned, and follow established procedures.
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class B)
Bilingual (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:  
Basic knowledge of custodial mechanical equipment, operation, tools, and components
Knowledge of motors, hydraulics, vacuums systems, and electrical systems
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision
Ability to analyze information and solve problems
Ability to lift heavy equipment and machinery
Basic computer skills, and ability to work independently when necessary
Effective verbal and written communication skills

Minimum of two years of experience as a mechanic preferred

Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
Follow all safety rules, including lock-out-tag-out, regulations, machine guidelines and guarding while starting, and work on cleaning machines.
Dismantle and reassemble machinery such as floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and additional custodial cleaning machines.
Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems. 
Troubleshoot equipment failures or breakdowns.
Do welding and minor body work.
Maintain accurate, updated records of schedules and preventive maintenance of equipment, including inspection, calibration, safety checks, repairs and replacement of broken or worn components.
Inspect and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, etc.; service or repair items as needed, including identifying replacement parts for purchase or fabrication, and adjust as necessary.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and services.
Follow established procedures to complete assigned projects.
Work irregular hours as needed.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.  Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.  Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours.  Maintain emotional control under stress.
