Elementary Special Education Case Manager
ASSIGNMENT The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager is an essential team member at APA and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of assessing, managing, supporting and teaching math, reading and possible other subjects of students and works to insure free and appropriate access to academics by monitoring and reporting to the team the educational progress, challenges, or other issues for students with disabilities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties; • Provides teaching in math, reading and possible other subjects to school site by specifically teaching up to 2 hours per day in the ability level groups typical of the APA educational settings. • Provides a supportive approach to the LEA in the areas of compliance with state and federal law and district procedures, academic procedures and APA policy and protocols. • Provides consistent communication and full participation within the LEA team relating all issues of the special education students needs to the LEA team for addressing at a cooperative level. • Takes a leading role in understanding and participating in the process of informal resolution of complaints and due process issues notifying the campus administrator and district coordinator at the first sign of a dissatisfaction or identified concern. • Works effectively as a team member communicating needs or challenges of a student with disabilities to the specific campus supports in place such as the administrator or other local campus SpEd peers. • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job description are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.
Knowledge of: • Principles and methods of educational and instructional services models. • Current educational programs, curriculum, and instructional practices and strategies which assist students with disabilities in securing a quality education. • RTI model and research based methodologies for behavior management. • Teaching and learning theory. • Day-to-day operations and appropriate support services necessary to assure the success of special education students in elementary and secondary levels. • Applicable federal and state laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to • students with disabilities. • Oral and written communication skills. • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to: • Effectively plan, organize, and implement an educational program and support services. • Exercise judgment and discretion. • Prioritize work to meet schedules and timelines. • Prepare narrative reports. • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders. • Work independently with little direction. • Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters. • Understand and be sensitive to those of culturally and linguistic diverse backgrounds.
Education: Successful candidates will have a valid Utah State Special Ed Licensure.
Experience: Preferably, 1 to 3 years successful teaching as a Special Educator. We will also consider previous success working in a special education environment or related field. Knowledge of Goal View IEP writing software and ASPIRE data base is beneficial but not required.
