Parent Liaison
To implement the school Title 1 Parent Compact, increase parent involvement in our schools and strengthen positive parent engagement at both the district and school level.
Proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
Strong problem solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with parents, school staff and community members with a variety of diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to respond creatively to challenges.
Experience in conflict management.
I. Determine the needs of the families and community:

  • Conduct a survey of needs of families by the end of September.
  • Work with the school principal to determine incentive for increased parent participation.
  • Propose an action plan based on the results of the survey to the building principal and the Director of Student Achievement.
  • Conduct home visits as needs and as circumstances warrant.  It is recommended for safety reasons that another staff member accompanies the parent liaison when doing home visits.
II. Work with parents and staff to impact student achievement:
  • Helping children with their homework.
  • Ensuring a Home Learning Environment.
  • Language Acquisition classes.
  • Computer Classes.
  • Other approved literacy classes and workshops.
  • Write a monthly newsletter informing parents about school issues, opportunities and academic information (in both English and Spanish).
  • Work with building administrator and Director of Student Achievement to create curriculum documents to be distributed to parents to understand what children are learning at school.
  • Create, organize and create a check out system for the Parent Resource Center at the school.
  • Attend parent organization meetings, building accountability meetings and district accountability meetings as requested by principal.
  • Work with building principal in completion of the Title I Parent Compact.
  • Work on sustainability of parents who have gone through trainings and Trainer of Trainer (TOT) model for Family Literacy. Facilitate parent TOT laptop computer and LCD use- all workshop info already loaded on computer.
III. Coordinate volunteers:
  • Recruit, train, develop, increase and maintain volunteers.
  • Maintain district protocol for volunteer registration and approval.
  • Maintain updated data base of volunteers.
  • IV. District functions:
  • Attend professional development activities when scheduled and approved by joint supervision team.
  • Attend required district meetings as scheduled and approved by joint supervision team.
