Media Center/Library Teacher for Elementary

ESL Institute Summer 2020



One media center/library teacher needed for the Elementary ESL Summer Institute at Whittemore Elementary School.  The media center/library teacher will work with beginning and early intermediate ELL students and support English Language development.  Media center/library teacher will collaborate to develop and support the teaching of units that combine high-quality direct language instruction, technology and Common Core curriculum frameworks. Teacher applicants must be ESL licensed teachers or elementary licensed teachers who have completed an SEI endorsement course.  Teacher applicants should be familiar with the best practices in instruction for all students, possess strong collaboration skills, demonstrate knowledge of grade appropriate databases and online resources to enhance grade-level content and to promote the development of English language proficiency.
Focus of the Program
This program will be open to Waltham Public School students enrolled in English as a second language programs and who will be entering grades 1 through 5 in September 2020.  The program is expected to have a teacher student ratio of approximately 12:1.  Students will be engaged in a variety of daily directed and independent activities designed to promote academic language for the purposes of: understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in English as well as readiness for American school culture.
Terms of Employment
The Institute will be held at Whittemore Elementary School, July 6th through July 31, 2020. Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Teachers are expected to be on duty from 8:15 am – 12:45 pm..  In addition to grade level collaboration and instructional time, teachers will be compensated for planning and preparation with the program director, coordinator and classroom teachers.  Four 2 hour mandatory curriculum prep meetings will be held April-June
