Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification: $50,000+ per year, Exempt, Full-Time, Benefited

The Instructional Designer will support faculty using instructional design and high-impact best practices to develop quality teaching methods and courses in on-site, online, blended and hybrid learning environments. This position’s primary focus will be with online course development. This position will design and implement trainings to enhance faculty knowledge and enthusiasm regarding learning possibilities. This position will coordinate, with faculty, the development and improvement of courses ensuring that projects meet or exceed quality standards. This position will work as part of a creative and talented team to support students, faculty and staff in the pursuit of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning with technology. As a member of this team, this position will work with students, faculty and staff to provide support for various academic technology services for the campus. As the demand for technology increases, this position is imperative to the mission of the University of North Dakota.
- Work with faculty colleagues who teach on-site, online, and/or hybrid courses to introduce them to and help them apply instructional design methods to the development and delivery of their courses and programs
- Provide pedagogical and technical support to faculty in the design, development and delivery of courses
- Work with faculty to design and create engaging and interactive learning activities for on-site, online, hybrid, and blended courses
- Recommend active learning strategies that address diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds
- Manage the development of on-site, online and blended/hybrid courses from conceptualization through design, ensuring courses meet or exceed quality standards and that development is completed on schedule
- Collaborate with coworkers to develop services and programs that support teaching and learning online and on campus
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs to encourage, promote, and develop active learning and critical thinking strategies for increased student engagement and retention
- Ensure accessibility standards that have been established for courses and programs are being met
- Identify and help resolve ethical and legal implications of instructional design (TEACH Act, intellectual property, copyright, ADA-compliance, etc.).
- Work with TTaDA staff members to design and develop workshops, seminars, forums and tutorials (e.g. self-guided tutorials, online tutorials, other multimedia materials, etc.) to support faculty use of instructional design concepts, Learning Management System (LMS) tools, and other instructional technologies
- Working together with instructional designers and other TTaDA staff, conduct workshops, seminars and forums as needed within academic departments and across campus
- Support and promote evidence-based best practices, following rubrics on quality teaching and course design
- Research and evaluate new instructional technologies, LMS plug-ins, and educational applications.
- Remain current and have a working knowledge of the latest industry technology tools and trends in higher education.
- Keep up to date on Emerging Technologies and explore ways they can be used in Higher Education
- Present appropriate educational uses of emerging technologies to the campus and outside
- Provide quality assurance and testing of various instructional technologies as needed
- Actively participate in all TTaDA team meetings
- Participate in UND Online meetings as appropriate
- Assist with Help Tickets as they relate to BB, Academic Technologies, etc. supported through TTaDA
- Other duties as assigned
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, including collaborating with subject matter experts and instructional designers to help write, design and develop instructional content
Knowledge of pedagogical best practices and effective instructional strategies
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment - collaborative, team-building, and collegial working style
- Ability to work with faculty members across disciplines
- Ability to plan, manage and organize multiple instructional design projects at a time
- Ability to enhance and improve efficiency in various teaching and learning settings (in person, online, hybrid, blended)
- Ability to provide high level of customer service with a positive, energetic outlook
- Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field
- Experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Two years experience with design and delivery of instructional products
- Experience with Learning Management System
- Successful completion of criminal history background check
- Experience developing state-of the-art instructional multimedia assets for learning environments. Instructional multimedia includes the development, production, and/or conversion of multimedia content, such as presentation and interactive media - video, motion graphics, animations, and other instructional media elements - creating visual communication and digital learning objects
- Experience producing SCORM and 508 compliant web-based content
- Proficiency using digital media development and authoring tools (examples include: final cut pro, adobe creative cloud, adobe captivate, HTML5, and others)
