Biliteracy Staff Developer Grades K - 8
Full-time, School year position

Job Summary:  Demonstrate exemplary classroom literacy practice and possess a deep understanding of literacy theory.

Available: 
2020-2021 School Year

Qualifications:
IL Professional Educator License (PEL) with Bilingual (Spanish) endorsement and English-as-a-Second Language endorsement required
Reading Specialist endorsement preferred

Experience of leadership roles in a school (e.g., teacher leader, staff developer, school mentor, or similar role.)

Job Goal:  The goal of the District Biliteracy Staff Developer is to provide job-embedded professional development for bilingual teachers in implementing effective structures for Spanish/English literacy instruction.

  • Extend literacy competencies through professional development opportunities and networking with Literacy Staff Developers in the District
  • Spotlight and advocate literacy-related topics for parents, staff, district administrators
  • Help improve instruction by engaging bilingual teachers in intensive professional development and promote a school-based professional community
Manage and evaluate the District's Spanish literacy program to ensure the highest level of quality:
  • Collect data, analyze results, and report finding
  • Provide demonstrations of literacy components
  • Observe and coach bilingual teachers in effective practices
  • Provide sustained mentoring to bilingual teachers
  • Lead bilingual teachers in bilteracy unit and lesson planning
  • Plan and conduct professinal literacy team meetings
  • Provide workshops on the biliteracy framework
  • Implement the school-wide assessment system for monitoring student achievement
  • Be familiar with Estrellita literacy curriculum
  • Be familiar with Fountas and Pinnell assessments in English and Spanish
  • Be familiar with Spanish literacy assessment, Evaluación del Desarrollo de la Lectura (EDL)
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the overall literacy program
  • Identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate reading and writing materials in Spanish and English
