Under the overall supervision of the Meadowview Principal and general, daily direction of the assigned Special Education Teacher, the Paraprofessional performs a variety of instructional and routine classroom support duties related to the program.
Classrooms are for students with moderate to severe cognitive and physical impairments in an elementary or secondary level program. Students are provided with an alternative and modified curriculum and specialized instruction. Staff are responsible for engaging students in the curriculum and handling health and behavioral needs under the supervision of the teacher, making judgement decisions quickly about student safety. Related service staff (speech therapist, school social worker, school psychologist) assist the teacher and students with instructional activities and behavior plans, which the paraprofessional is expected to implement as developed by professionals.
  • Attain and maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification
            NOTE: Initial and/or Refresher Training provided by District

  • (Required) Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • (Desired) One (1) year or more experience in a school setting providing direct support to students.
  • (Desired) Possession of an Associate’s Degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • (Desired) Three (3) years or more experience working with individuals with special needs, such as: learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disabilities and behavioral disorders.
  • Sitting – Moderate
  • Standing/Walking/Bending/Stooping – Moderate, common to classroom environment
  • Lifting – Minimal to moderate, following lifting protocols
  • Moderate physical strength, mobility and dexterity to perform the job tasks.
  • Requires that the employee provide his or her own transportation for job- related travel.
