This position is responsible for the operation of the payroll function, including the development and implementation of plans to provide accurate and systematic payroll service in coordination with the business office. The position reports to the Executive Director of Business and Finance and Accounting Supervisor.
Associates degree in accounting or equivalent combination of work experience and education in payroll processing. District prefers Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting with an emphasis in payroll.
Possess or desire to obtain MSBO Certification.
Strong math, organizational, people, written and verbal communication skills.

Coordinates all aspects of payroll, including:
Entry of contract and hourly rates changes for employees prepared by Human Resources in Kissflow.
Entry of timesheet information into payroll system and balances before processing the payroll.
Processing payroll for paper time sheets for all hourly employees.
Maintaining control and assurances proper completion of W-2, W-3, W-4 and 941 forms.
Establish annual payroll processing calendar.
Answer questions related to garnishments and levies received.
Resolving complaints, concerns and problems in the area of payroll.
Understanding and implementing the requirements of the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System, including employee elections, reporting and payments.
Payroll and transmitting EFT payments of taxes and direct deposits.
Plans the operating activities of the payroll department and the formulation of future objectives, particularly those related to ongoing software implementation with Cyborg to new Smart software.
Prepares journal entries to be posted in conjunction with each payroll, voided checks and payroll adjustments and year-end accruals.
Reviews financial reports on payroll withholding and balances to internal records, including: taxes, retirement contributions, deductions, annuities, benefits, etc.
Prepares paperwork, checks and complete reports verifying payments made to IRS, retirement and annuity carriers.
Assists in problem solving complaints, and concerns in the area of payroll.
Completes payroll statistical data as required, including uploading reports to various websites.
Ensure wages and benefits are charged to correct accounts per the general ledger. As these accounts are an integral part of accounting and budgeting process.
Respond in a positive manner to employee questions regarding their paychecks, deductions and overtime.
Timely completion of all final payroll detail reports for all retiring employees.
Prepares state and federal reports relating to workers’ compensation claims and audit.
Assigns staff quarterly to the Administrative Outreach Report software for Special Education Reimbursement.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Business and Finance and Accounting Supervisor.
