The Department of Art at Valley City State University is seeking a driven, passionate individual to work closely with existing Art Faculty to lead the new four year, B.A./B.S. Digital Design degree.

The primary responsibility of this position is to teach courses as part of the Art major, minor, and certificate programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible to expanding the new Digital Design program by developing course content, advising on equipment and logistical issues for new digital classroom, recruiting and promoting degree, developing internship partners, and mentoring design students.   

Additional responsibilities include: academic advising, contributing to annual department assessment processes, participating in department events, maintaining active research activities, participate in service activities including campus committees, recruiting, and other activities as needed. 

Individual will teach 12 credits a semester including courses in Photography, Introduction to Digital Media, Graphic Design, Digital Imaging, Digital Illustration, Web Design, and History of Graphic Design.

Minimum Qualifications:
MFA in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related discipline
2 years of related experience
Strong knowledge of graphic design history, contemporary art history and movements
Ability to work with others in a collegial and collaborative manner

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in higher education both in face-to-face and online environments
Years of professional experience in design industry
Proficient with the use of technology in the classroom
Background in print, interactive, and new media such as experience with Adobe Creative Suite, 3D printing, and hybrid/online learning
Experience online teaching using a learning management system such as BlackBoard or similar
Experience academic advising 
Experience in student recruitment 
Ability to teach a variety of classes including: Photography, classes in the Digital Media Major, Art History, design, drawing, and art appreciations

Compensation:

In some cases, summer duties may be arranged through an additional contract.
