Position Description:

The Resident Teacher is a role that is designed to build one's readiness to lead their own classroom. This person is paired with the instructional coach as a way to: 1) see exemplary instructional practice in action; 2) receive immediate and actionable feedback on their own practice; and 3) to provide structured release time so that the coach may leave the classroom to support others  The Resident Teacher will work closely with the assigned instructional coach to plan lessons, provide instruction, and to support the overall academic and social-emotional growth and development of the students. Throughout the year, the Resident Teacher will gradually assume increasing teaching responsibilities and will receive continuous feedback from their teacher with the end goal of transitioning into a Lead Teacher position the following school year. Instruction

  • Implement instructional strategies, learning tasks, materials, and technology tools that reflect consideration of and accommodation for the individual needs of students assigned

  • Consistently support student achievement through the administration and analysis of formative and summative assessment and use those assessments to adjust instruction based on individual student need

  • Assist students in analyzing or improving methods and habits of study

  • Use multiple forms of academic and behavioral data in order to reteach, reinforce, and extend instruction

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to support special education students behaviorally and academically according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP's)

  • Actively participate in the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)  process in order to ensure that the needs of all learners are being met

  • Facilitate both whole- and small-group instruction

  • Meet all lesson planning requirements

Professional Development

  • Participate in all informal and formal observations

  • Participate in all staff meetings, committee meetings, and work sessions as required by the instructional coach, director, or network

  • Join and participate in all team planning and data analysis meetings

  • Engage in ongoing personal professional learning through reading educational journals and books, exploring educational research, enrolling in college courses, participating in all network and campus level professional staff development activities

  • Seek out and be receptive to feedback

Professional Expectations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Illinois Professional Educators License (preferred) OR must be willing to obtain Illinois Professional Educators License
