COMPENSATION: $14.29/hour - $14.71/hour (depending on experience) plus benefits. *Please note that the hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

- Valid Illinois Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or Professional Educator License or Substitute Teacher License.

- Ability to use basic job-related equipment

- Experience working with students with special needs preferred
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Special Education Teacher Assistant supports students with disabilities from ages 3-21. Under the direction of a licensed special education teacher, the teacher assistant supports the goals of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; following educational and specific behavioral plans; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs.Employees in this classification will receive a variety of assignments including classroom support, lunchroom, playground, vocational and work sites, etc.
Job Coach Description: A job coach TA plays a unique role. The job coach plays a critical role acting as the liaison between the school and community business partners by empowering students as they transition into the world of work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: accommodate, guide students in performing work duties, data collection, develop skills related to performing specific job tasks, supporting with interpersonal skills necessary in the community while actively and consistently communicating with case manager or classroom teacher. Develop and maintain rapport with the employer, this is an important bridge and critical to the future of our program. Your role is to nurture the assimilation of the student to become a team member in the work place.
- Assists students with disabilities with academic, behavioral, social and functional growth and development.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students with disabilities and other staff.
- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials.
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans (e.g. reading, math, language comprehension, writing, computer, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts.
- Promotes independence of students with disabilities.
- Documents students’ daily activities (e.g. behavior, completed assignments, on/off task times, etc.).
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students with disabilities in a variety of settings (e.g. classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus-loading zones, cafeteria, assemblies, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides specialized handling or care of students (e.g. toileting, diapering, feeding).
- Communicates and collaborates with teachers and other relevant personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
- Maintains classroom equipment and work area for the purpose of ensuring a safe and clean learning environment.
- Participates in all meetings, and professional development activities as assigned by the building or district administrator.
- Supports and implements District policies and procedures, regulations, and administrative directives.
- Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws governing special education.
- Performs other related duties as may be directed by the building or district administrator.
