Description

Position Summary:

The AFJROTC Director is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the JROTC curriculum and successfully incorporating the Turning Point Cloud (TPC) technologies during classroom instruction. The instructor oversees and executes curriculum planning, Air Force educational programs, drill and ceremonies, and education administration, including tests and measurements.


Essential Tasks and Responsibilities: 
 

  • Instruct cadets in the AFJROTC curriculum during the school year
  • Conduct training at AFJROTC and Cadet Leadership Course (CLC) summer encampments
  • Develop short and long-range plans for achieving curriculum goals
  • Gather appropriate materials; establish clear objectives for lessons; and formulate/execute lesson plans
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students
  • Evaluate student progress and counsel cadets on their performance within the AFJROTC program
  • Motivate and encourage students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen
  • Monitor student movement to ensure a safe, orderly environment
  • Organize, supervise and participate in extracurricular activities for AFJROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities
  • Comply with the requirements outlined in the annual AFJROTC Curriculum Implementation Plan
  • Maintain technical proficiency in the administrative, logistical, and cadet data components of WINGS – the AF cadet tracking database
  • Coordinate with all AFJROTC department personnel to plan, organize and conduct AFJROTC extracurricular and co-curricular activities to meet requirements established in WINGS and AFJROTC Instruction 36-2010
  • Attend staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities
  • Set an example and model positive attitudes, knowledge, and skills for cadets
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new instructional methods, technology and equipment
  • Advise school authorities of rules and regulations affecting the AFJROTC program
  • Provide Color Guard to support school and local organizations
  • Maintain all military clothing and records on each cadet
  • Conduct field trips for students to promote curricular goals
  • Conduct recruitment activities for the AFJROTC program
  • Travel as needed to implement goals and objectives
  • Report directly to the Career Tech Ed Administrator to ensure applicable instructions are complied with and the unit is operated in an efficient manner
  • Act as the unit commander providing overall AFJROTC program management, direction and oversight to assisting program Instructors (ASI) and cadet membership programs and activities
  • Confer with teachers, parents, U.S. Air Force and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives
  • Implement aerospace science and leadership education programs for the purpose of meeting the U.S. Air Force guidelines
  • Instruct students enrolled in program for the purpose of meeting AFJROTC requirements
  • Maintain classroom equipment, student files, records, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required
  • Adhere to the Air Force Core Values as well as all policies of the district and the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all requirements of the AFJROTC program and of specialized, approved, means of implementation of the program
  • Ability to organize operations in an efficient, effective, military style
  • Possess effective instructional delivery techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate students to excel
  • Must be of good moral character and have an enthusiasm for aerospace science, leadership education, teaching, and the Air Force


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Must have appropriate endorsement on teaching certificate
  • Must be certified in accordance with established District, State and Military standards
  • Must be Retired Air Force Officer (Major or Colonel) with a minimum of 20 years extended active duty; OR retired Gray-area Air Force Guard or Reserve member with a minimum of 3,600 retirement points; OR
  • Be retired five (5) years or less when hired as an Instructor (may be waived if the applicant is otherwise exceptionally well qualified and based on the needs of AFJROTC); and served the last year of active duty as an officer
  • Must complete the Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification Course (JICC)
  • Successful completion of all background checks
