Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities in Construction and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide students with information and skills related to career options in construction related fields



Secondary Industrial Arts: Grades 6-12
Secondary Industrial Technology: Grades 6-12
Technology Education: Grades 6-12
Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 6-12
ESL Certification/Endorsement within first year of employment
Construction Management industry experience


Specialized Responsibilities and Duties:

1.Assist students in obtaining Articulated Credit and Industry Certifications.

2.Provide students the opportunity to participate in a Career and Technical Student Organization


4.Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities and other duties as assigned.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:          

       Instructional Management

5.Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated

6.Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required

7.Prepare lessons and adapt the curriculum for individual student differences

8.Establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate objectives to students

9.Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations

10.Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved

11.Provide opportunities for students to participate actively and successfully

12.Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress during instruction

13.Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement

14.Knowledge of subjects assigned, general knowledge of curriculum and instruction and good knowledge of child growth and development

15.Provide extended hour opportunities for students to obtain the minimum required hours and skills to sit for industry certification exams

 School/Organization Climate

16.Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods in accordance with district requirements

17.Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district

18.Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

19.Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers

20.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.


 School/Organizational Improvement

  1. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes in a regular school day
  2. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials
 Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Compile, maintain and file accurately and correctly all reports, records and other documents required
 Student Management
  1. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study
  2. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress and report cards as required
  3. Maintain appropriate assessment evaluation documentation
  4. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students
  5. Establish a discipline management plan, maintain order in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations
 School/Community Relations
  1. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may volunteer to sponsor outside activities approved by the school
  2. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning instructional expectations and student progress
  3. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and community members
  4. Promote the school in a positive manner within the school and community
  5. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly to colleagues, students, parents and community
  6. Provide opportunities for students to provide architectural design services to the school and community
  7. Engage in cross curricular activities with other CTE content areas as appropriate to the curriculum
Professional Growth and Development
  1. Participate in the district staff development program
  2. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement
  3. Participate in a principal approved externship with an industry partner
 Supervisory Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for student teacher(s), educational assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s)
  2. Administer standardized and other tests as required
  3. Provide as much as possible, a safe environment to protect students

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
