The Teacher Assistant is responsible for implementing program objectives as part of a teaching team and providing support to the Master Teachers with all classroom activities. This includes, but is not limited to, implementing curriculum, supervising children, communicating with parents, and providing a health and safe environment for children.

  • Workasapartoftheclassroomteamto supportthefullinclusionofchildrenwithidentifiedandsuspecteddisabilities.

  • Workasaclassroomteamtopreparelessonplans,completeobservations,andassesschildren.

  • Followthroughwithactivities,materials,inalignmentwiththechildren’sIEPgoalsthroughouttheentireschoolday.

  • Collectbehaviordataasrequestedforchildrenwithidentifiedconcerns.

  • Followthroughwithteacher/clinical/administrativerecommendationsregardingallaspectsofcurriculumandprogramming.

  • Inconjunctionwithclassroomteacher,maintainconsistentcommunicationwiththechildren’sfamilies/guardians.

  • Participateinallscheduledteammeetingspertainingtoclassroom.

  • Assistinplanningfieldtrips.

  • Assumefullresponsibilityforonegroupofchildrenengagedinaspecificactivity.

  • Superviseandparticipatewithchildrenduringfreeplayactivities.

  • Shareresponsibilityforcleaningupafterallclassroomactivities.

  • Setuptheroomforactivitiesbothinthemorningandafternaptime.

  • Participateinallscheduledin-housetrainingsthroughouttheschoolyear.

  • Attendparentmeetings.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

  • AnAssociate’sorBachelor’sdegreeinearlychildhoodeducation(ECE)isrequiredforsomepositionsandpreferredforall.

  • Otherpositionsrequireoneofthefollowing:

  • Aminimumof30collegesemestercreditsoverallwithaminimumof15semestercreditsinECE,andaninfant-toddlerCDA(ChildDevelopmentAssociate)

  • Anassociate’sorbachelor’sdegreeinanotherfield,andaminimumof30collegesemestercreditsinECE
  • DCFS teacher qualified.

  • Experience Required:

    • ExperienceinanEarlyHeadStart,PreventionInitiativeorNAEYC-accredited0-3classroomisaplus.

     

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Bilingualskillsmayberequiredorpreferredbasedontheneedsoftheprogram.

    • Musthavetheabilitytocreateaclassroomatmosphereinwhichchildrencandevelopphysically,intellectually,emotionally,sociallyandcreatively.

    • Abletoworkwellwithstaff,families,otheragenciesandfundingsourcepersonnel.

    • Excellentverbalandwrittencommunicationskills.

    • Well-organized,detail-orientedandaccuracy-driven.

    • Abletomanagemultipleprojects.

    • Excellentcomputerskills.
