POSITION: Assistant Principal
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
State of Illinois PEL
The goal of the Assistant Principal is to assist the principal in the continued improvement of the education process. In all actions taken as a member of the administrative team, it is the responsibility of the assistant principal to support the genuine welfare of the students and to facilitate the philosophy of the school’s mission.
Assists the principal in providing leadership to the curriculum development and evaluation process.
Assists the principal in the evaluation of instructional programs.
Participates in programs of articulation with grades lower and higher than those in the school.
Assists the principal in evaluation of personnel.
Oversees the school lunch program including supervision of lunchroom and playground personnel.
Cooperates with staff members to solve parent/student/teacher problems.
Assists the principal in the facilitation of staff development.
Assists in the supervision of school health care including health care records.
Monitors student discipline in accordance with the school management plan and Board of Education policies.
Assists the principal in safeguarding the health and safety of students in school and at related school functions.
Helps to plan and supervise fire drills, emergency preparedness drills, and bus safety drills. Maintains the school’s Crisis Management Plan.
Monitors student bus discipline and works with the director of transportation in addressing transportation and safety issues.
Assists the principal in the provision of services to students with special needs. Will assist the principal in the implementation of the Response to Intervention program.
Assumes responsibility for continued personal professional growth in the field of education.
Assumes the role of acting principal in the event that the principal is absent or is inaccessible.
Interprets the school program to parents and maintains good public relations with the community. Provides tours to incoming or potential new parents.
Performs other specific functions as may be assigned by the Principal.
Participates in administrative meetings and other meetings as may be requested by the Superintendent.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the District evaluation model.
