JOB DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
TITLE: School Psychologist
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Master’s Degree or higher degree in Psychology or Educational Psychology with specialization in School Psychology and a Type 73 School Service Personnel Certificate. Other qualifications/competencies:
1.) Must have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with BMP staff, member districts and related personnel and to contribute to the accomplishment of a shared goal.
2.) Must have the ability to effectively communicate with others, to create a climate of trust and address possible conflict in order to resolve such conflict at the earliest possible stage.
REPORTS TO: School Psychologist Supervisor
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: To provide psychological consultation, intervention and/or prevention services to member school district students and personnel.
To monitor progress and complete psychoeducational assessments for students referred to BMP.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate on Building Based Teams to facilitate the development of interventions and to monitor the progress of student performance.
2. Plan and/or implement interventions that may include counseling, in-class groups, one-to-one assistance with behavior, social skills training, etc.
3. Assist with the development of assessment questions and corresponding data collection.
4. Complete appropriate psychoeducational assessments for children who have or are suspected of having a disability to assist in determining educational needs and eligibility/entitlement for special education and related aids and services.
5. Attend and participate in Eligibility and Individual Education Planning Meetings to interpret assessment results and progress monitoring data to assist in determining appropriate interventions/supports and/or eligibility.
6. Conduct or assist with inservice training opportunities, as requested/appropriate, to member district staff, parents or community groups.
7. Provide relevant and knowledgeable consultation and support to member district personnel regarding systems level progress monitoring/benchmarking activities and strategies to address the educational/behavioral/vocational needs of students.
8. Complete thorough professional records and reports within the expected timelines.
9. Attend inservice training sessions, workshops, seminars, etc., to increase knowledge of current methodologies and issues in the field of School Psychology.
10. Perform/Assume other duties and/or responsibilities as may be assigned or approved by the School Psychologist Supervisor and/or BMP Director.
11. Follow the policies and procedures of the BMP Staff Handbook.
EVALUATION: Performance of School Psychologists will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the BMP policy as described in the approved Evaluation Plan and Performance Objectives.
