Description

Substitute School Bus Driver

  • Safely transports students on a school bus (up to the bus's capacity e.g. [1-90]) on a school bus
  • Obeys all traffic laws
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintains discipline when students are on bus
  • Reports disciplinary issues to the proper authority
  • Keeps assigned bus clean
  • Maintains routing schedule within reason
  • Provides good customer service
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully with supervisor, students, co-workers, parents and all stakeholders
  • Acknowledges and complies with all GSCS System Values
  • Performs pre-trip inspection before each bus operation
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical problem or other emergency situation
Minimum Qualifications :
If applicant currently holds a valid CDL:
•         Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years
•         Passenger (P) Endorsement—System will help secure, if necessary
•         Student (S) Endorsement—System will help secure, if necessary
•         Ability to pass a Criminal History check to work with students (background check)
•         Ability to pass a drug screen and DOT physical
OR
If applicant does not hold a valid CDL:
•         Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years
•         Ability to pass a Criminal History check to work with students (background check)
•         Ability to pass a drug screen and DOT physical
•         System will provide 12 Hours Classroom Training
•         System will enroll candidate in Monitor Program
•         Candidate will go through requirements for Learners Permit
•         System will provide CDL Training
•         Candidate will take and pass CDL Exam


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Pass DOE annual physical for School Bus Driver
  • Ability to assist incapacitated students off the bus if an emergency arises
  • Ability to open all emergency exits including roof hatch and rear exit
  • Demonstrated ability to exit rear emergency exit
Salary: $12.00 per hour with CDL; $8.50 without CDL (until CDL is obtained)
