JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:  In School Suspension Paraprofessional
Department: Teaching and Learning
Reports to: School Principal

Position Summary: The In School Suspension (ISS) Paraprofessional is responsible for providing a supervised and structured environment for students assigned to the ISS Program within a school. The ISS Paraprofessional works with classroom teachers to coordinate the academic activities of suspended students and provides assistance to students in completing the assigned work. The ISS Paraprofessional also monitors students and maintains a safe and orderly environment within the in-school suspension classroom.

 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Associate Degree, two years of college credit or a passed the GACE Paraprofessional Test (required)

Certification/Licensure: Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which includes in-service training related to the position

Experience: None

Physical Activity: Routine Physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities Walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time

Knowledge Communicates effectively and promotes good public relations with all stakeholders Works with peers/supervisors in a considerate and cooperative manner and assists others when needed Record keeping and organizational skills Fully accepting of students with disabilities

 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Attends work every day on time and performs all duties as assigned effectively and efficiently Exhibits a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in working with School Board members, school administrators, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public Assists students assigned to the program with completing their regular classroom assignments Assigns additional work if the student completes their regular classroom assignments Ensures all tools, texts, and supplies are available for students to complete assignments Maintains daily attendance and other records of students assigned to the program Serves as a liaison between the classroom teacher and students assigned to the program to obtain and return the student’s daily class work and homework. Maintains a structured environment within the classroom by implementing a behavior management plan Maintains confidentiality, unquestionable integrity about the students you have or are working with in ISS, including discussions with staff members, parents, community members and others unless requested to discuss by the administration Monitors students who have been assigned to in-school suspension and reviews student progress Communicates appropriate behavior, school rules, and regulations to students in the program; and explains to students the reasons for suspension and its impact on their education Guides and encourages students to develop a positive attitude toward learning Communicates with administration and classroom teachers regarding student behavior and progress. Escorts students during break/lunch periods and monitors hallways Reports inappropriate behavior by students to professional staff members. Reports the effectiveness of the program to the school administrative staff and makes suggestions for improvement. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Security Clearance: The Glynn County School System requires a criminal background check and fingerprinting on all new employees, including all substitutes and other designated employees.

WORK DAYS: 190

COMPENSATION RANGE: $16,239 – $23,257*
*Compensation commensurate with education and experience.
