LEAD Charter School, NJ's first alternative charter high school, seeks an exceptional educational leaders to join its community of educators. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Opportunity Youth Network (OYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique academic and nonacademic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative OYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven, competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education. The Program Aide (PA) at LEAD work with students individually and in small groups in all core subjects and various settings with the school. The Teaching Assistants may remain in the classroom throughout the day to support the social-emotional and learning needs of students in particular content areas, or may follow individuals and/or small groups of students from class to class in order to keep them engaged, break down information, and help them interact professionally with their peers and teachers. Like all teachers and staff at LEAD the PA serves as a model for our students. The PM will be part of the Instruction Support Team and report directly to the Instructional Supervisor and Head of School.

Qualifications and Certification
Bachelor’s degree required, graduate students or degree welcomed
New Jersey Substitute Certification Preferred
Urban classroom experience or a demonstrated commitment to closing the achievement gap
A firm commitment to and belief in LEAD’s mission
Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility
Flexibility under pressure
Comfort with ambiguity
Commitment to OYN school model and implementation with fidelity.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software.
Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & NJ residency.
Review student academic progress data and support struggling student as determined by the supplemental program within LEAD
Support instruction across all content areas.
Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment using curriculum and materials provided by LEAD teachers and staff.
Collaborate with each student’s Advisory to set appropriate and frequent academic and social goals.
Lead afternoon student halls as necessary to support students inside class and during Office Hours.
Lead student advisory groups if asked to do so by School Leaders.
Engage fully in a coaching relationship including feedback meetings with school leaders.
Work collaboratively and participate actively at faculty meetings and in professional learning teams.
Develop and maintain school culture artifacts like bulletins, data walls, and announcement boards.
Teach and enforce the program-wide, clearly defined systems, structures, and rules (including before and afternoon and during transition times).
Tutor designated groups of students for predetermined periods of time (supplementing programming).
Develop strong collegial bonds with core content teachers and staff to facilitate seamless support and programming to students.
Provide assistance to core content teachers in the following areas: classroom set-up, material creation, entering grades, facilitating lessons, planning and practicing assessments.
Assist with the Lunch Program as needed.
Be available via phone and/or email throughout the evening and weekend to communicate with families, teammates and school leaders.
Complete other duties upon request by the school leaders.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the school leader and approved by board.
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
