Substitute Teacher (2019-2020 School Year)

Complete applications include proof of your highest level of education, GACE Para Assessment Results (if required) and responses from the three confidential reference forms. One of the reference forms must be from your current supervisor, if you are working, or your most recent supervisor if you are not currently working. There is a selection process in which substitute teacher applicants are interviewed. If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified by Human Resource Services.
Applicants with a high school diploma, GED or who have earned less than 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit are required to pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment to be qualified for consideration as a substitute teacher. Applicants who have earned 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of acceptable college credit, or have earned an Associate’s Degree or higher are not required to take the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment in order to be considered for employment as a Substitute Teacher.
Substitute teaching is not a full time job. This position is considered "on-call" as needed, with no guarantee of hours of employment. Substitute teachers are not eligible to draw unemployment wages. [Campbell v. Poythress, 216 Georgia Appeals 834 (1995)]
1, Substitute teachers must be 21 years of age or 18 years of age and have completed fifteen quarter or nine semester hours of college credit.
2. Substitute Teachers must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED). A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is preferred.
3. The GACE Paraprofessional Assessment is required for any substitute teacher with less than an Associate’s Degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of acceptable college credit.
4. The Substitute Teacher must be a person of high integrity, excellent character, and good reputation.
5. All substitute teachers are required to attend the Henry County Substitute Teacher Workshop prior to being approved as a sub.
