  • This posting is for the 2019-20 school year only.  If you previously applied for a certified substitute position in the 2018-19 school year, it will be necessary to reapply using this posting. CURRENT SUBSTITUTES OF THE DISTRICT ARE NOT REQUIRED TO REAPPLY.
  • In order to be considered for this position, the following steps are required: 

  1. Complete the "Substitute Teacher" online application -  APPLICATIONS WITHOUT OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS AND/OR A KENTUCKY TEACHING CERTIFICATE ATTACHED WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED (For information regarding Kentucky Teaching Certification, please contact KY EPSB at 1-888-598-7667 or www.kyepsb.net)
  2. Qualified candidates will participate in an interview with the Human Resources department
  3. Candidates selected through the interview process will then participate in a new hire orientation
RETIRED Boone County Teachers

If you retired from Boone County Schools as a teacher through the Kentucky Teacher Retirement System (KTRS), you may not apply for the substitute position until three (3) months after your retirement date.  Additionally, you may not contact the school district or your previous administrator regarding substitute teaching until the three month period since your retirement date has elapsed, otherwise, you will jeopardize your retirement benefits.

Once the three month period has elapsed, please complete the online employment application for the substitute teacher position and a member of the Human Resources Department will contact you regarding the next steps in the application process.
Job Description:

  1. Must hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate; or
  2. Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher (GPA does not matter); or
  3. Have a minimum of 64 semester hours with 2.5 grade point average or grade point average of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of credit completed, including undergraduate and/or graduate work.
  4. Has demonstrated an ability to work and communicate effectively with students and staff
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To enable each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.
  1. Report to the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building
  2. Review with the principal or designated person, all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day
  3. Maintain, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned
  4. Follow the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plan or plan book as prepared by the absent teacher
  5. Assume responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and, if appropriate, during lunch and recess periods
  6. Report, in writing on the form provided by the school secretary, the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day
  7. Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates
  8. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  9. Works directly with teachers and assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and play periods
  10. Checks and records students’ attendance
  11. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student
  12. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the regular teacher
  13. Monitors and reports school safety conditions to the building principal
  14. Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
