General Job Description The job of Development Officer/Grant Writer is for the purpose of providing resource development support to the District and the South Summit Education Foundation by assisting in planning and implementing the District’s fund-raising efforts by working with schools, PTO’s, alumni groups, as well as corporations and foundations and engaging in stewardship, donor relations, and grant writing.

Education/Qualifications • 3-5 years professional grant writing experience with Bachelor’s degree in job-related area strongly preferred along with demonstrated grant-writing and/or fundraising success. • Testing Certificates and Licenses Continuing Education/Training. • Salary is contingent upon performance and funding. • Experience fund raising and grant writing.

Essential Functions • Collaborates with a wide variety of individuals and organizations (internal and external) (e.g. volunteers, corporate representatives, PTO’s, principals, etc.) for the purpose of soliciting funding and developing programs. Assists South Summit Education Foundation Director. • Develops grant applications and related documents for the purpose of soliciting funding from a variety of sources to support district schools. • Assists Foundation Director and Administration in coordinating projects (e.g. Scholarship Gala, etc.) for the purpose of cultivating and soliciting funders. • Cultivates donors for the purpose of establishing relationships and soliciting funding. • Assists Foundation Director and Administration to develop programs (e.g. comprehensive stewardship program, family/student support, etc.) for the purpose of meeting donor expectations and school needs and for reporting impact of designated funds. • Maintains regular and predictable attendance for the purpose of fulfilling job requirements efficiently and effectively. • Maintains a database of contact information for potential donors for the purpose of cultivating relationships that will lead to future donations. • Maintains a variety of records and reports (e.g. program participation, contacts, fiscal expenditures, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and documentation. • Manages grants (e.g. solicitation, research, drafting, management, tracking, reporting, archiving, etc.) for the purpose of securing funding and overseeing grant compliance. • Assists Foundation Director in monitoring programs (e.g. scholarships, faculty development awards, endowments, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate use of restricted and non-restricted funds. • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. donor and prospective donor correspondence, informational mailings, event invitations, funder profiles, proposals, brochures, etc.) for the purpose of cultivating potential donors, informing existing donors, and soliciting funding sources. • Researches potential funding sources (e.g. foundations, corporations, and individuals, etc.) for the purpose of tailoring communications and solicitations and developing additional funding sources for current and proposed services and programs. • Align all projects with the current strategic and operational plans of the school district and state and local benchmarks, standards, and rubrics. • Secure administrative approval prior to developing new projects.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. Ability to develop and coordinate a project budget and have an understanding of accounting concepts KNOWLEDGE is required to review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; knowledge of the community and its resources; concepts related to fundraising; grant writing; and program planning, management and evaluation. ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operates equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and others; maintaining a professional work environment; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; directing the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 5% walking, and 45% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
