Qualifications

  • Must have valid CDL(Commercial drivers license) to transport school children

  • Must maintain a valid school bus driver permit

  • Must be in good standing with Illinois Secretary of state

  • Must submit to background checks, physical examination, and drug screening.

  • Must pass a school bus knowledge test

  • Must have a clean driving record

  • Must complete a bus driver training and certification course

  • Must be 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license for the past 3 years

  • Good verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with others

  • Have the ability to follow directions, both verbal and written

  • Must be able to make on-the-spot decisions, to protect the safety and welfare of children

 

Daily responsibilities

 
  • Must safely operate the school bus and ensure the bus is in good operating condition

  • Maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct

  • Must deal with parents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner
