There are five steps that must be taken to become a substitute teacher at WCSCC.

Step #1 - Complete AppliTrack Application and complete four forms listed on this page

Step #2 - Please call our office 330-669-7000, Ext. 6000, to schedule a paid orientation and onsite training which includes classroom management strategies. 


What to bring to orientation:

  • Four fully completed forms as mentioned above.
  • Driver's license, social security card and voided check for payroll purposes
  • A Valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License - If you have a valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License, we must have a copy in our office. 
    • If you do not have a teaching license and need to apply for a substitute license you must apply online through the Ohio Department of Education. You can apply for your license before the orientation. 

      ** Please note: If you are applying for a NEW license our office must have a copy of your official transcript that shows you have earned either your Bachelor's or Master's degree BEFORE we can approve your licensure online through the Ohio Department of Education.**
    • As part of the licensure, you must complete a BCI & FBI Criminal Record Check at Tri-County ESC, 741 Winkler Dr., Wooster, OH  44691 (330-345-6771).   Their hours are 8:30-4pm M-F.  You will need to take Driver's license or passport and Social Security card.  There is a $59 fee for the BCI and FBI checks.  Only exact cash or credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover) are accepted.  (If you have completed a BCI and FBI check at Tri-county ESC within the past 1 year, we will accept copies.)  

Step #3 - Training Using Public School Works - All substitute teachers are required to complete Public School Works training. During your orientation you will be given log in information.    

Step #4 - Once you have completed Steps 1 - 3,  you will be placed on our substitute list and emailed information regarding Aesop login.

Step #5 - Your employment will now be board approved.
