Preschool of the Arts Instructor

The Early Learning Center at Mary Castle is seeking a Preschool of the Arts Instructor who is friendly, energetic, flexible, and collaborative. He or she has experience working with children ages 3-5 and possesses the knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice in preschool. This candidate must have a love of learning as continuing professional development is a requirement. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes and greets all children and families.
  • Build relationships with your children and their families.
  • Displays friendly and professional manners and personality.
  • Communicate with families regularly.  Maintain a communication log.
  • Maintains family and staff confidentiality aligned with MSD Lawrence Township and State laws and regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for children to explore, learn and grow.
  • Supervise children in and out of the classroom
  • Always consider what is in each child’s best interest.
  • Interact with children.
  • Listen to children’s interests.
  • Assisting children with toileting needs, including changing diapers.
  • Follow and know all licensing standards.
  • Follow and know all emergency procedures
  • Supervise classroom Instructional Assistant.
  • Communicate classroom happenings to Principal.
  • Collaborate with peers.
  • Collaborate with Special Education Team to meet the goals of children with special needs and IEPs in place (Individualized Education Program).
  • Attend meetings and assist on committees as required.
  • Maintain ratios at all times.
  • Maintain a calm, organized, stress free classroom environment.
  • Create a daily schedule and follow it consistently, children feel more secure when a routine is in place.
  • Planning and guiding project work.
  • Documenting project work.
  • Recording data, photographic, anecdotal, and work samples to assess children’s progress and needs.
  • Replenish toys and materials to keep the classroom environment fresh and interesting.
  • Provide assessment reports to families three times a school year.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, families, children and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrates professional appearance and hygiene in accordance with established workplace culture and protocols.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Responsive to families, children, staff and Principal’s needs.  Including: being tactful, respectful and considerate of others regardless of their status.
  • Manages difficult situations in a professional manner.
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to change in the work environment.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors work to ensure quality.
  • Responds to direction, follows instructions and completes work or task assigned by Principal in a timely manner.
  • Takes personal responsibility for own actions, keeping commitments and asking for and offering help when needed.
  • Observes safety and security procedures and reports any potentially unsafe conditions to Principal.
  • Is consistently at work and on time and ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Professional conduct at all times—dress code, language, cell phone use etc.

  1. Education:  2 Year Associate’s Degree/4 Year Degree/ CDA
